Inspired by Oganesson (Og, 118), the heaviest known element in the periodic table.

The element was named in honor of Armenian scientist Yuri Oganessian in recognition of his exceptional contributions to world science. This distinction made him one of the very few scientists to have a chemical element named after them during their lifetime.
