The Legend of Mount Ara
his design, titled “Nature Is My Home,” features Mount Ara, its flowing spring, and one of the mountain’s most iconic inhabitants — the bear.
Mount Ara is surrounded by legends that have been passed down through generations. According to one tradition, the Assyrian queen Shamiram, blinded by her love for Ara the Beautiful, caused his death, and his body was transformed into the mountain.
The cave located on the mountain is also connected to local folklore. One legend tells of a maiden named Varvara who hid there from her father. When shepherds revealed her location, she prayed that they be turned to stone, while her tears became a healing spring.
Another legend speaks of a girl named Tsaghik, who escaped from a pursuing prince and found refuge in the cave. It is said that the site later became known as Tsaghkevank in her honor.
