Tamzara belongs to the Armenian dance family known as “two steps forward, two steps back,” distinguished by its distinctive length and dynamic movements.
The dance includes left-and-right steps, double foot strikes, and shifts of body weight from one side to the other. According to Komitas, Tamzara is a traditional wedding song and dance, in which the main roles are played by the parbash (dance leader) and the parapoch (end dancer), while the bride traditionally stands beside the godfather.
Although the dance has lost much of its original ritual significance today, Tamzara remains a distinctive and energetic example of Armenian folk dance heritage.
