Khamkhaman (Vaspurakan Dance)

Inspired by the Vaspurakan folk dance “Khamkhaman” (or “Khm Khma”), preserved and passed down through Armenian diaspora communities, particularly through the work of American-Armenian dance researcher Tom Bozigian.

According to tradition, the “Khm-Khma” dance expresses the emotional state of a young man under the influence of wine, revealing his love and admiration for his beloved. The dance was preserved and performed by Vanetsis who settled in Fresno, USA.

The design highlights a key movement of the dance — the clenched-fist connection between dancers — symbolizing unity, strength, and togetherness even in moments of joy and celebration.

A tribute to Armenian folk heritage, movement, and collective identity.
