“Menk High Aghvor Aghcig” is one of the six songs Karapet Janjanyan recorded for the Yeprad label. He performed the song accompanied by clarinetist Krikor Geljukian and an unnamed qanun player. The song is a unique gem of Armenian folk heritage and appears not to have been recorded by any other performer. It is a traditional wedding song from the Kharpert region, particularly the area of Akn, telling the story of the groom’s family coming to take the bride from her parents and welcome her into their family. Karapet Janjanyan performed exclusively folk melodies from Kharpert, which were once widely known and deeply cherished by the people of the region.
